Mantell Syndicate Report

In 57 BTC SIS undercover operatives became aware of a large, widespread criminal operation hiding behind the legitimate front company of Corellian Transports and Exports or 'CTE' (though no concrete evidence to ever connect the the operation to CTE has been uncovered). Over the last 60 years, no less than 20 different operatives have attempted to infiltrate this secret organization without any measurable success. Most were never heard from again.

Relatively little is known of the organization as it seems to have done an excellent job of covering its tracks. However, to-date, it is suspected to be involved in over 947 different infractions of Republic law, most of which surround smuggling operations, but espionage, sabotage, and even assassination have also made the list.

Of the few Republic operatives who returned to report, it was learned that the criminal Syndicate was run by a shadowy figure referred to only as 'The Director' and that while the organization had safe houses at CTE offices all over the galaxy the Director's primary base of operations was located on the planet of Ord Mantell. For this reason, though the cartel claims no specific name for itself, many have come to refer to this group of skilled criminals and mercenaries as 'The Mantell Syndicate'.

THE DIRECTOR: Very little is known of the shadowy leader of the Mantell Syndicate known only as 'The Director' other than it seems to be a title that has been passed on from individual to individual over time. In the 60 years that SIS has been investigating the Syndicate there seem to have been at least two different 'Directors'. While both active directors in this time period were believed to be human and male, there are stories in the organization of Directors that have been female and/or species other than human. Nothing is known of the process used to pass the Director's title and power from individual to individual. It is theorized that the Director's position may have some kind of strict code and/or an apprenticeship program as the style of organizational execution for Directors across the history of the Organization seem to have a high level of continuity.

The Director has complete control over the organizations activities and is the strategic genius behind all Syndicate activity and seems to have a great deal of patience to execute complex and long term plans that have the greatest yield for profit and influence. While the Director does seem to have knowledge of all Syndicate activities and it is theorized that at some high level, he/she coordinates all activities, he/she does designate a lot of the day-to-day details of organization management to various 'managers' in the organization.

J-N1S (Janice): An HK-51 Assassination Droid with extensive protocol modifications who, from what our agents report, seems to have not undergone a memory wipe in decades, possibly even centuries, making its behavior even more dangerous and unpredictable. The droid (who has been programmed with an ironically pleasant female voice) has been the property of the acting Director for as long as anyone questioned can recall and currently serves her master in the role of Operations Director and Public Relations Officer. Reports indicate that until recently, she held the primary function of 'Director of Security' but sometime in the past few years was replaced in this role by the current Director of Security (see Verad Orvocono) who she now openly resents. She also appears to have a strong disdain for most 'organics' (as she calls them) whom she feels to be inferior to droids. There are rumors that the Director finds her frustrations amusing and intentionally placed her in a role where she constantly has to interact with 'organics' as some kind of cruel joke. While her protocols restrain her from acting against those she oversees as her current duties demand, it has been reported that when placed in situations where she is able to make full use of her assassination protocols, or in the rare situation where she is able to find a loophole to circumvent her restrictions, her abilities are extremely deadly and she is to therefore be approached with extreme caution.

Verad Orvocono: A Mandalorian and the Syndicate's current Director of Security, Mr. Orvocono is as brutal and efficient as his heritage might suggest. he has served the Director for a number of years now and is one of the few individuals to have direct access to the mysterious Director other than J-N1S. No one is quite sure what Mr. Orvocona did to earn the Director's trust and be elevated to his current position, but many rumors abound, none of which have yet to be substantiated and most are far too mythical and extreme to be believed. All that is known is that Mr. Orvocona did not 'rise through the ranks', but rather came into his position fairly suddenly in the organization.
