Application Process

Salutation: I am 'Janice', Operations Director and Public Relations officer.

Bemused Query: I understand you think yourself significant enough as to warrant consideration for employment by my master? Though I find humoring such inquires from lesser organics like yourself tedious and futile at best, I have been instructed to assist you despite my reluctance.

How to join The Mantell Syndicate:

We value quality here at the Mantell Syndicate and we feel that quality attracts quality, so while we take our application process very seriously, we have tried to simplify it as much as possible so that quality members can get to what it is they do best as quickly as possible. The quick summary is:

  1. Fill out an application
  2. Go on a mission with our Current Operatives
  3. Week or two of probationary 'Contractor Status'.

Query: Still interested? Disingenuous Encouragement: Great! Use the more detailed outline below to get started!

1) Do your homework.
GUEST Level:
Forum Permissions: View most forums with read-only access

Before you apply for membership, have a good look at the materials we have made available on this website and at the type of things we have posted in the forums. Look over our history, guild rules, FAQ's, and communications policies. Make sure that we are indeed a good match for your character idea and your play style.  We are somewhat of a 'niche' guild.  There are lots of other great guilds out there and this particular one may or may not be the best fit for you. We'd rather have you figure that out now than later when it it becomes more awkward for you to discover it or us to point it out to you.

2) Register on the site.
CONTACT Level:
Forum Permissions: Post/reply permissions in Recruitment* forum

Register a user name. You must use a valid email address as we do require email verification. We will never sell, trade, or provide your email address to any third party. It may be used to contact you if the management of the site have a question or issue to discuss with you, or for general announcements on rare occasion, but other than that we hate spam as much as you and won't do anything to increase yours. Out of respect for those that wish to keep it private, we do not ask your age, but be aware that we do have an 18+ age minimum and should it be discovered later that you do not meet that requirement and/or falsified information, it can be grounds for immediate expulsion. Until you actually post an application, however, you will remain at the "Contact" level. Do not post any threads in the Recruitment Forums that are not an application. Doing so can cause your user to be banned or deleted.

3) Fill out and post an application in our Recruitment Forum
APPLICANT Level:
Forum Permissions: Post/reply permissions in Recruitment*, Rumors (Game OOC), and Misc OOC forums

(You can find our application form here). This helps us to get to know you and makes us aware of your desire to join as well as gives us a little bit of feedback concerning how you heard about us. One or more of our members will review your application and ask any questions they might have. While forum permissions will allow you as an applicant to comment on other applicants threads, please do not until you have reached the level of Operative.  As part of your application, you may choose to write a Trial Run 'mission' but it is no longer a requirement.   However, a Trial Run or other 'short story' about your character certainly helps us have a better sense for who he/she is and what drives him/her.

If you have any more questions about this portion of your application, please feel free to post them in your original application thread.

4) Role Play a 'Mission' with current operatives.

Seek out one or more current members of the Mantell Syndicate and we will arrange an *in-character* meeting between your character and one or more of our operatives.  (You can find online members by using our 'INFO' channel which can be accessed in game by typing '/cjoin msinfo'.  This channel is OOC and can be used for general questions as well as setting up RP.)  The idea behind this meeting is that your character has been contracted to assist one of the Syndicate's operatives in some specific mission.  As I mentioned, this meeting is to happen in-character and you must meet with at least two operatives total.  This can be two at once, or two different operatives at two different times.

5) Contractor Status
CONTRACTOR Level:
Forum Permissions: Post/reply permissions in Recruitment*, Rumors (Game OOC), Misc OOC, Operations* (IC), Trial Run* (IC), Operations Commentary (OOC), and Trial Run Commentary (OOC) forums.

Once you've met our live role-playing requirements, and submitted your online application - assuming there are no glaring issues uncovered, you will be offered guild membership at the 'contractor' level.  This is our 'introductory' level in the guild.  You will remain at this level for no less than a week as we get a better feel for you and your activity level and you get a feel for us and actually being a part of the guild.  if you are active, then a Guild officer will promote you to a full 'Operative' status within a week or two.

6) Become an 'Operative'.
OPERATIVE Level:
Forum Permissions: View/Post/Reply/Edit all forums except officer forums and rules/policy/announcement forums. Also able to access the application commentary forum currently available only to Operative level and above.

If, after all this we are impressed enough to offer you membership and everyone (including you) still think we are a good fit, we will invite you into the guild as an 'Operative' which is the initial rank of membership and will give you access to post on our other member forums as well as offer comemntary and review on new applications. At this point you will also need to add your chracter to our Holonet.
